Ships and Emotions: Part 2
Aang lay in his bed, the ship's gentle rocking bieng not the reason he was awake. At the moment all he could think about was Katara. He decided to go up, on the deck. He made his way to the railng and stared at the cerulean sea. Aang sighed and went back under to the kitchen, where he prepared some jasmine tea.
" Hey."
Aang jumped. He didn't even notice Katara sitting at one of the tables.
"Hey, Katara."
"Hi. You couldn't sleep?"
"Nah. You want some jasmine tea?"
"I'd love some."
Aang poured both of them tea and sat down beside Katara.
They sat and drank silently for several minutes until Aang broke the silence.
"So... Katara?"
"Huh?"
"How do you feel about...um... me?"
"Uh. Well, I think you're a great friend."
Aang looked at his glass, feeling rejected and mortified.
"But I---"
"I love you, Katara."
Katara sat there silently.
Aang was about to leave. He just knew she didn't like him.
He walked to the door.
A water wall suddenly lashed out in front of Aang.
"Katara, just let me go. I know you don't feel the way I feel about you."
"Aang, we have to talk about this."
"No, we don't."
"You don't love me. I mean, I thought we were gonna be together. I was wrong."
"Aang, I--- do feel the same way. It's just that--- you're the avatar. I don't understand why you love me."
"What do you mean? You're like the best waterbending teacher anyone could ask for. You're beautiful and smart. And--- you're the one who saved me from the iceberg. You're the one who's been there for me, Katara."
Katara looked at Aang and smiled. He smiled back. "We're almost to the destination. We should probably--- get some sleep."
