Hi, this is a fanfic I posted on AvatarPortal, and I thought I would post it here, hope you like it
----------------------
Aang was tired, Appa was exhausted, Sokka was frustrated, Toph was bored beyond utter comprehension, and poor Katara was just trying to keep the peace. It was the third long day in a row that consisted of only flying accross a blank ocean, and patience was wearing thin. Then finally they spotted it........land.
Appa immediatly shot towards the coast at full speed nearly knocking all of his passengers, except Aang, off with a strong, sudden gust of wind. Everyone turned to look at what had caused this excited reaction from Appa, and they too spotted it.
A few secounds later, Appa hit the dirt with a small yet graceful bound and immediatly fell asleep.
-Aang: It's ok buddy you can rest now, we finally made it onto solid ground
Sokka and Toph were extatic
-Toph: Finally! I can see again. Aaaaahhhh.......sweet vibratiions.
-Sokka: Oh good! Open space, nice fresh air that doesn't smell like Appa, solid ground to walk on, and space to spread out on, not like those horrible last two nights when we were packed together.
However, Aang felt a little differently about sokka's comment, he remembered just how close he was to Katara the last two nights and began to blush
Katara was petting Appa, which was her way of thanking him everytime they flew, but her mind wandered elsewhere
------------
The sun had already begun setting by the time they reached the coastland and it was getting late, so they started unpacking their stuff. Sokka pulled out the tent materials and began placing them together,
-Sokka: Oh, Shoot!
but failed over and over again, Toph went to look for some wood to start a campfire with, and Katara went to look for some food, but Aang didn't really had a job tonight so he stayed by the water and pretended to look busy everytime Sokka looked over at him for help with the tent.
Aang couldn't really keep his mind off of katara, everytime he thought about her he got this funny feeling inside of him, that he thought of somewhere between throwing-up and having 1,000 butterflies inside of him. He had first felt it after Katara had caught him looking at her down at the south pole, it continued to feel that way up until the cave of the two lovers, where the feeling had easily doubled after their kiss, and now he has wanted to tell her that he likes her for a long time, but due to constant bad-luck, he was unable to.
Katara had found many berries, nuts and some interesting plants for food to bring back to camp, but was still picking different items mainly because she was lost in her own thoughts. The last two nights, she had found it hard to sleep, because she was very uncomfortable on Appa's saddle, and each night she would roll over and look at the sleeping Aang. She has found that her feelings for Aang are very confusing. At first when she met him, it was like having a little brother and a playmate, that made her feel like a kid again, all wrapped up into one. But ever since then Aang, maybe not age wise, but maturity wise, has grown up so much that it is like having a boy her age or even a little bit older around. And then she remembers their kiss in the cave of the two lovers, it was simply amazing, like true love dancing right in front of her eyes. Ever since then she has been in constant war with herself and her feelings, not knowing whether she is in love with Aang or just considers him to be an intimate friend.
Katara just realized that it was getting late and the rest of the group was probably worried about her, so she picked up her baskets of food and left the forest.
-----------------
Sokka, after much struggle and anguish, had succeded in making a semi-sturdy tent, Toph had gathered enough wood to build a comfortable campfire, and Aang was still pondering by the shore when Katara arrived back at the campsite.
Sokka had caught a couple of shallow-water-fish and was frying them up over the campfire, and was quietly conversing with Toph. Katara layed her baskets down next to them and sat down and tried to join in their conversation, but failed, mostly because her mind was still focused on Aang. She looked toward the shore and noticed Aang sitting there peacefully, playing with a stick in the wet sand. Katara quickly threw out of her mind all of her ponderings and began to walk towards Aang.
Aang was still thinking about his feelings toward Katara, when she quietly sat down next to him
-Aang: Wha.....Aaaahhh!.......(blushing) I mean, hi Katara
(Katara giggles)
She could tell by the crimson color in his face that he was thinking about her, but Aang, who realized she knew, discovered that she found that delightful from her ear-to-ear smile
Aang made an attempt to make the situation less uncomfortable
-Aang: So.....ummm........Did you find some good berries?
-Katara: Uhhhh, yep, plenty to eat
-Aang: That's good
-Katara: Yeah, it is
His attempt was not working, which he embarressingly realized, when katara randomly started derobing next to him
-Aang: Uhhhh, what are you doing?
-Katara: (blushing) Going for a swim, are you coming?
-Aang: Um, sure!
They both got fully undresed except for their undergarments and ran into the water. They fooled around some, waterbending small waves at eachother, and even sometimes dunking one another.
Aang's mind became somewhat clearer, he knew he should say something to her, right now while they were both in the water together. Then he thought of the perfect yet obvious answer.
-Aang: Hey Katara, how do you feel about me?
Katara was taken aback, she didn't realize that the question she had been pondering most of the evening, and many times before as a matter-of-fact, was going to be so suddendly fired at her in such a seemingly easy way. What was she going to say?
Aang's heart stopped. He just looked at Katara. He began to worry about things like, why is she taking so long to answer, is that a bad thing, what if this wasn't the right time to say something. All he wanted in the whole entire wrld right now was for Katara to answer the way he would like.
Katara was still thinking, when her gut came up with an answer that her heart whole-heartedly agreed with.
-Katara: Aang.......I love you.
Splash! Aang had just shot under the water, he didn't really know what he was doing right now, but his gut told him that it was the perfect thing to do. He came out of the water, right in front of Katara, carefully enough not to soak her in it, and Kissed her on the lips
Katara Just realized that she was being kissed by Aang. So this is what it is like for your entire heart to come together on one idea, it is amazing, and she passionately began kissing him in return
